“The Expanse” – A Group Exhibition by Saskatchewan Painters

Much of Saskatchewan is a maze of lakes and marshland, engulfed by towering trees. Each seems to be different, a pond of shimmering glass, tucked away in some hidden cove of the land, soft skirts of birch encircling the little peace of firmament trapped in its surface. a deep and vast lake, ice cold and wind tossed. Home to the White sturgeon, able to live for over 100 years if given the opportunity, they are the gentle giants of these unknown expanses. Full of life without count, cloaked in their dark robes. Some of the lucky people who live in this province have fallen in love and wonder out into the mystery to try their very best to capture it on canvas. But as it always has been and always will, it is allusive.

Explore the lakes, rivers and trees that make up the boreal forest. Examine the range of mediums – acrylic and oil paint, alcohol ink, encaustic, graphite and mixed media. Do you have a favourite trail or vista? Can you see the difference in the artists’ styles and processes? How does their artistry inspire you?

See you soon at Black Spruce Gallery.

The event is finished.
