Brigitte Nowak
Brigitte Nowak spends her summers on an island in the Canadian shield surrounded by water and trees. Her oil paintings explore the human-nature relationship and the boundary between observation and interpretation. Her technique reveals a deep mastery of form and symbolism, blending wilderness, portraiture, history and modern expression. Among recurring subjects in her work is among the most celebrated of Canadian icons, the canoe. She has been exploring the waters and collecting canoes for decades.
Quite often viewers of her work have difficulty grasping an empty canoe in the middle of the lake. Brigitte refers to her work as "canoe portraits".
Brigitte's work is included in private and corporate collections and has won awards in Canada and the U.S. She has been featured in museum exhibitions, and is represented by several Canadian galleries.
